Have you achieved simplicity in your artistic works? Or is your work full of complex, paradoxical ideas? I have been accused of making things too simple — of boiling down complicated ideas to the simplest of ideas. Writing haiku for seven years taught me a lot about simplicity. Simplicity does not mean dumb or stupid or ignorant. Sometimes the most brilliant ideas can be expressed in a few simple words. Sometimes wisdom can be conveyed in a single brush stroke of black ink or a few notes on a piano.
